CAMBODIA

1. JAPAN’S SCHOLARSHIP FOR CIVIL SERVANTS -- FRESH NEWS

Japan will provide a US$42.8 million (RM175 million) grant for human resource development. Young Cambodian government officials will be able to pursue graduate studies at various Japanese universities under the programme.

 

2. MINISTRY TO CHANGE TOURISM CAMPAIGN SLOGAN -- THE PHNOM PENH POST

The Tourism Ministry said it will reword its newly introduced “Frog Out of the Well” tourism campaign slogan after it sparked public debate. The new slogan was to promote Cambodia’s tourism sector.

1. INDONESIA ADVANCES SPACE PROGRAMME WITH NEO-1 SATELLITE -- ANTARA

Indonesia's National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) is set to launch the NEO-1 satellite in January 2027, marking the country's first domestically developed satellite built by Indonesian researchers with a domestic component level (TKDN) of 65 per cent.

 

2. DANANTARA BREAKS GROUND ON BALI WASTE-TO-ENERGY PLANT -- ANTARA

 Indonesia's sovereign wealth fund, Danantara Indonesia, has broken ground on a Rp3 trillion waste-to-energy (PSEL) plant in Bali on Wednesday, marking the first project under its national waste-management initiative.

At least three outdoor sports operators are reviewing their safety procedures after a man was killed by lightning while paddleboarding last Sunday, even though existing protocols already require activities to stop at the first sign of dangerous weather.

 

2. SINGAPORE PLEDGES NEARLY $65,000 TO AID VENEZUELA RECOVERY AFTER DEADLY QUAKES --  THE STRAITS TIMES

The Singapore Government has contributed US$50,000 (S$64,700) to aid the recovery and reconstruction of Venezuela after powerful twin earthquakes struck the country on June 24, killing more than 3,500 people and displacing thousands.

1. THAILAND POSTPONES LAND BRIDGE AND SEC BILL FOR WIDER CONSULTATION -- THE NATION

Siripong Angkasakulkiat, Deputy Minister of Transport, gave an update on the transport infrastructure development project for the Southern Economic Corridor, intended to link transport between the Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea, known as the Land Bridge.

 

2. EARLY RETIRE BID 'CANNOT WAIT' -- BANGKOK POST

The government's proposal to expand voluntary early retirement for civil servants is needed to tackle long-standing structural problems that can no longer be postponed, Deputy Prime Minister Pakorn Nilprapunt said on Wednesday.

Vietnam aims to position itself as an emerging destination for halal tourism. It will improve its institutional frameworks and standards, develop human resources, expand halal-certified services and strengthen international trade.

 

2. HANOI TO GET SECOND AIRPORT -- VIETNAMPLUS

Vietnam has included a second airport for Hanoi in its revised national airport development plan. Under the revised plan, it will have 36 airports by 2030, including 19 international and 17 domestic airports.
