PHNOM PENH, July 8 (Bernama) -- Malaysia’s Chief of Defence Force Gen Tan Sri Malek Razak Sulaiman visited the Cambodian border area in Banteay Meanchey province to obtain a first-hand assessment of the ground situation.
On Wednesday, the ASEAN Observer Team (AOT) stationed in the area briefed the visiting army chief on the prevailing security in the Kingdom’s northwestern province, reported the online portal Fresh News.
“His visit to the Cambodia-Thailand border area in Banteay Meanchey reflects Malaysia's close attention to regional security and stability, particularly issues involving borders between ASEAN member states,” reported the news portal.
Malek Razak is visiting Cambodia at the invitation of the Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces, General Vong Pisen, from July 8 to 11.
The AOT was established last year to monitor the Cambodia-Thailand ceasefire agreement following a military confrontation that erupted on July 24, 2025, due to border disputes.
The AOT is currently led by the Philippines, which is also the ASEAN chair.
