Johor Polls: Police Receive 56 Reports, Open 18 Investigation Papers On Election Offences
JOHOR BAHRU, July 7 (Bernama) -- The Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) received a total of 56 police reports and opened 18 investigation papers related to election offences throughout the 16th Johor state election campaign period from July 27 until yesterday.
Johor police chief Datuk Ab Rahaman Arsad said that in the last four days alone, a total of 32 police reports were received and 10 investigation papers related to election offences were opened.
He said these involved two investigation papers under Section 4a(1) of the Election Offences Act 1954 relating to the offence of spreading ill-will or hostility as well as Section 24b of the same act.
“Another involves Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 relating to election campaign offences and its limitations.
“In addition, eight investigation papers under Section 427 of the Penal Code have been opened for committing mischief resulting in the loss or damage of property,” he said in a statement today.
Ab Rahaman said that throughout the Johor election campaign period, his party had received 3,484 permit applications with a total of 3,215 approved, while 3,182 political programmes and activities had been monitored to ensure that their organisation complied with the law and did not affect public safety and order.
“Johor police will continue to enhance the level of preparedness, monitoring and enforcement throughout the election period and any violation of the law will be dealt with firmly, fairly and with integrity without compromise.
"The public is urged to continue to obey the law, respect the democratic process and cooperate with officers on the ground to ensure that the Johor polls is held in a peaceful, safe, harmonious and orderly atmosphere," he said.
Commenting on today's early voting, Ab Rahaman announced that the voter turnout among PDRM personnel was 95.42 per cent, equivalent to 11,511 voters, with the voting process taking place smoothly and orderly without any unwanted incidents.
"A total of 643 PDRM personnel exercised their right to vote by post, which began last Tuesday, and postal ballot papers will be accepted again this Saturday before 5 pm," he said.
According to Ab Rahaman, a total of 12,706 officers, policemen and spouses are registered as early voters for this Johor polls.
