KDEBWM Boosts MPHS Waste Services With 33 New Compactor Lorries
HULU SELANGOR, July 6 (Bernama) -- KDEB Waste Management (KDEBWM) has strengthened domestic waste collection services under the Hulu Selangor Municipal Council (MPHS) with the handover of 33 new compactor lorries following the start of its seven-year contract on July 1.
KDEBWM managing director Datuk Ramli Mohd Tahir said the compactor lorries, comprising 18 Isuzu lorries, five Mitsubishi Fuso lorries and 10 UD Trucks, are equipped with the latest specifications to boost domestic waste collection efficiency and ensure operations are carried out systematically, safely and in an environmentally friendly manner under the contract ending June 30, 2033.
“We have been entrusted once again to continue providing the service for seven years until 2033. Our first contract with MPHS began in 2018 and ended on June 30.
“Compared to the past seven years, we collected about 100 to 150 tonnes of waste per day, but this has now increased to between 150 and 250 tonnes and could reach up to 300 tonnes daily,” he told reporters after the handover ceremony of the 33 new compactor lorries here today.
Also present was MPHS president Julaiahah Jamaludin.
Meanwhile, Julaihah said that the MPHS–KDEBWM partnership for domestic waste collection covered a seven-year contract worth RM117.2 million, or about RM16.7 million annually.
She said MPHS was also working with KDEBWM to ensure industrial waste from small and medium enterprises (SMEs) throughout Hulu Selangor is collected by concession panel companies.
Julaihah said the door-to-door solid waste collection system was introduced on July 1, with KDEBWM contractors collecting waste directly from the front of homes or premises on a set schedule.
“In this regard, the use of leach bins will be discontinued, and residents are required to provide covered waste bins with a minimum capacity of 120 litres, labelled with their house or lot numbers to avoid confusion.
“All domestic waste must be placed in plastic garbage bags, tied tightly and then disposed of in the bin, while the bin lid must be kept closed at all times to prevent stray animals and rainwater from getting in,” she said.
