Melaka Allocates Over RM45 Mln To Strengthen Islamic Education Institutions

MELAKA, July 2 (Bernama) -- The Melaka state government has allocated more than RM45 million to strengthen religious schools, Melaka Islamic Religious Department (JAIM) kindergartens, tahfiz institutions, and Al-Quran study centres in the state this year.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh said additionally, as a result of the state government's continuous efforts to advocate for the needs of Islamic educational institutions, the federal government has also approved an allocation of RM6.87 million to strengthen the infrastructure in 134 Islamic educational institutions in Melaka.

For the state government, religious education is not merely an addition to the education system but a foundation that shapes individuals, as roots that strengthen morals, and a bastion that produces the generation of Ulul Albab.

"Based on that framework, the state government continues to implement various comprehensive initiatives to enhance student excellence, strengthen Islamic educational institutions, elevate the teaching profession, and ensure the propagation of Islam continues to flourish in this blessed land," he said here today.

He said this while speaking at the opening ceremony of the 2026 Teacher's Day Celebration and 2025 JAIM Religious School Academic Excellence Awards, which was also attended by the State Education, Higher Education and Religious Affairs Committee chairman Datuk Rahmad Mariman.

Ab Rauf said that among the initiatives undertaken was the increase in allowances for Quran and Fardhu Ain (KAFA) Class teachers and JAIM Kindergarten teachers to RM1,700 per month as a symbol of respect and appreciation for those who dedicate their lives to guiding the children of Melaka.

He said that in addition, the state government is also continuing the maternity leave allowance initiative for female JAIM teachers as a sign that the government always understands and appreciates their significant roles, not only as educators but also as mothers who shape the next generation of the state.

At the event, 84 students from 28 schools who achieved excellent results in the Al-Quran and Fardhu Ain Class Assessment Test (UPKK) received the Academic Excellence Award, while 149 JAIM teachers received the Excellent Performance Service Award.

Meanwhile, the JAIM Teacher of the Year Award was presented to the former principal of Sekolah Rendah Agama JAIM Paya Rumput, Shamsiah Zakariah.
