Loke Urges MyLesen B2 Recipients To Ride Responsibly, Obey Traffic Laws

SEREMBAN, July 2 (Bernama) -- Transport Minister Anthony Loke has reminded youths, particularly beneficiaries of the MyLesen B2 Programme, that the motorcycle licence they receive is not a "ticket to race", but a responsibility to ride prudently and comply with road traffic laws.

He said about 60 per cent of road accident fatalities recorded annually in the country involved motorcyclists and pillion riders, with the majority of victims aged below 30.

“The licence is provided free of charge so that you can ride a motorcycle legally. We want all of you to travel to school and return home safely every day.

“Weekends are not for racing. If you go out, ride carefully and responsibly. Do not get involved in any illegal activities, especially illegal racing on public roads,” he said when speaking at the presentation of driving licences to participants of the Negeri Sembilan-level MyLesen B2 Programme here today.

Also present were Transport Ministry Secretary-General Datuk Seri Jana Santhiran Muniyan, Road Transport Department (JPJ) Director-General Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli, JPJ Deputy Director-General (Planning and Operations) Datuk Jazmanie Shafawi and Negeri Sembilan JPJ director Jasyindar Singh Sihdu.

Loke said the quota for the MyLesen B2 Programme in Negeri Sembilan had been increased to 2,300 participants this year from 1,000 last year.

“To date, 1,979 participants have obtained their Learner's Driving Licence (LDL), while 1,879 have completed their training and passed the competency test to obtain their Probationary Driving Licence (PDL),” he said.

Loke said the MyLesen B2 Programme, which has benefited more than 100,000 recipients nationwide since 2023, provides access to driving licences while opening wider opportunities for Malaysians to secure employment, pursue further education and improve their socio-economic status through legal and safe mobility.

He said the Ministry of Transport (MOT) and the JPJ would continue strengthening the implementation of the MyLesen B2 Programme as part of the government's ongoing commitment to improving road safety, facilitating mobility and accessibility, and creating a more comprehensive and sustainable transport ecosystem for all Malaysians.

Meanwhile, Loke said the Dewan Rakyat had passed the Road Transport (Amendment) Bill 2026, which, among other things, is aimed at curbing illegal racing and speed testing involving all types of vehicles.

“Anyone caught by the JPJ or the police for illegal racing will not only be fined but may also face imprisonment. This is a serious offence,” he said.

He also urged all new licence holders to comply with road traffic laws, practise safe riding and wear SIRIM-certified helmets whenever riding or travelling as a pillion rider.
