The Rayhan Sees Reunion As Second Chance To Continue Religious Mission
By Norhidayyu Zainal
KUALA LUMPUR, July 1 (Bernama) -- After overcoming life-threatening health challenges, three nasyid artistes, Nazrey Johani, Amran Ibrahim and Zulfadli Mustaza, have reunited to form The Rayhan, describing it as a second chance to continue propagating Islam through music.
The trio, former members of nasyid group Raihan, is also on a mission to revive nasyid (Islamic vocal music) as a form of entertainment that educates the soul while promoting positive values within society.
Nazrey said his four blocked coronary arteries, Amran’s surgery for chronic stomach ulcers and Zulfadli's battle with a stroke that resulted in brain haemorrhaging have given their latest journey a deeper sense of purpose.
"For us, this is a second chance at life. After going through these health challenges, we feel we have been given another opportunity to continue our work," he told Bernama here today.
Speaking on the group's direction, Zulfadli said The Rayhan was not formed to compete with other artistes but to help revive and elevate the nasyid genre in Malaysia.
He said the genre continues to play a unique role by combining entertainment with spiritual guidance, while imparting religious knowledge and positive values to listeners.
"We hope our reunion will create more opportunities for other nasyid artistes to produce quality performances. Nasyid is more than entertainment — it is a mission that deserves to continue flourishing," he said.
The Rayhan is set to perform at a concert at Megastar Arena, Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur, on Aug 15 at 8.45 pm.
Their ‘Konsert Syukur 2026’ is organised by Bintang Batu Event and Million Delight.
Zulfadli said the concert is expected to feature around 25 songs, including many of their classics that have resonated with fans for more than two decades, as well as a selection of children's songs and a duet performance with Indonesian singer Opick.
"We are targeting families. Those who grew up listening to our songs are now parents themselves and they can bring their children to experience the music they listened to.
"We are also planning to introduce two new songs during the concert, provided everything goes according to plan," he said.
Zulfadli said the group is currently undergoing intensive rehearsals, as well as having smaller performances leading up to the concert, serving as preparation to refine their vocals, musical arrangements and on-stage chemistry.
He added that their older tracks would be performed live with fresh musical arrangements, while all royalty payments would be properly managed through the appropriate channels.
"These (older) songs were written to be performed. Every song presented at the concert will go through the proper royalty payment channels, so there are no issues," he said.
Tickets for ‘Konsert Syukur 2026’ are available online through raihan.uberticket.asia.
